AUGUST 21ST - The Archaeological Institute of America, (North America's oldest and largest organization devoted to the world of archaeology with nearly 250,000 members and subscribers) has recognized Heritage Watch for its efforts in promoting and preserving Cambodia's cultural heritage by awarding the organization its Conservation and Heritage Management Award... Heritage Watch has been very active since its foundation in 2003 beginning with grass-roots education projects, radio and television appeals, the establishment of a telephone hot line, archaeological training, a social development project at Koh Ker temple site, the publication of posters, comic and children's books to educate people about heritage, exhibitions about looting and the creation of a database of laws applicable to heritage (the DHARMA project) to name a few of our initiatives to protect the incredible heritage resources of Cambodia. The Board and staff are especially pleased with the success of the Heritage Friendly Tourism Campaign which saw the launch of a premier magazine to promote Cambodia as a destination. TouchStone (in both Khmer and English) is widely distributed in Cambodia and has become one of the most popular magazines in the country. Heritage Watch is also proud to have over 100 members of the Heritage Friendly Business Association. These businesses are certified as they are making an effort to promote heritage, culture, the arts and development in Cambodia. Heritage Watch looks forward to continued successes with these and other projects including our new Heritage for Kids programme. All of this, of course, would not be possible without the support of our donors and corporate sponsors and we are always pleased to promote our partners in our on-line presence as well as in Cambodia through signage and TouchStone magazine. The award will be presented in Philadelphia next January at the AIA annual meeting. |
