No End in Sight in Preah Vihear Stand Off

JULY 22ND - A Cambodian official has called the confrontation at Preah Vihear temple "an imminent state of war," and Cambodia has asked the United Nations and its Southeast Asian neighbors to intervene as hundreds of soldiers from Thailand and Cambodia faced each.

A meeting on Monday between the Thai and Cambodian government failed to end the standoff and troops from both sides remained camped at Preah Vihear, located on the edge of a steep cliff that marks the border between the two countries... The Cambodian ambassador to the United Nations submitted the request on Monday for an emergency meeting of the Security Council to find a solution based on international law.
